Top 5 Bike Multitools for your next Ride

Why a Multitool?

Every cyclist knows that getting stranded without the right tools can ruin a ride. In fact, German bike magazine Radfahren notes that a good multi-tool “belongs to every cyclist’s basic kit” for adjusting the saddle, brakes or fixing other problems on the road.

Today’s smart multi-tools pack many functions into a pocket-sized package, from hex wrenches and Torx bits to chain breakers and even tubeless repair kits. When choosing one, consider what your bike needs (2.5–8 mm Allen keys, Torx, screwdrivers, etc.), as well as the tool’s weight, size and build quality.

A practical tip is to list the specific tools your bike requires (e.g. “I need a 5 mm Allen, T25, and a chain pin extractor”) and match that to the multi-tool before buying. At minimum, look for Allen keys (2.5–6 mm), a Torx T25 bit, plus flat/Phillips drivers. Quality matters too – top models use stainless or chromoly steel and clean machining so they don’t break under torque.

Key factors when shopping

  • Tool selection. Does it cover the bolts on your bike (hex sizes, Torx, chain tool, etc.)?

  • Weight/size. Lighter and more compact is easier to carry (some weigh under 50 g!). Check dimensions!

  • Durability. Premium builds (stainless steel, CNC-milled) last longer. Reviews often praise Swiss or German tools for quality.

  • Ease of use. Look for features like bit nesting/magnets, good grip, and a solid fold-out design. For example, Daysaver’s bits “nest in bits” and snap together magnetically, making it very compact.

  • Special features. Some tools add bottle openers, spoke wrenches or Tubeless repair kits. These can be nice extras if they match your needs.
